Throughout the world, people suffer from that all-too-familiar pounding headache and nausea that follows an evening of excessive partying. Below are a few international home-grown remedies to deal with the dreaded morning after condition. Do they work? No one really knows; but you can decide whether these are actually more entertaining than effective!

France: Thick, hot onion soup the morning after.

Switzerland: A shot of brandy with a hint of peppermint.

Russia: Heavily salted cucumber juice and black bread soaked in water

Norway: A glass of heavy cream.

Outer Mongolia: A pickled sheep’s eye in a glass of tomato juice.

Puerto Rico: Rub a lemon into the armpit of your drinking arm.

Haiti: Stick thirteen black-headed pins into the cork of the bottle that got you that way.

USA: These three myths are rumored to cure the  morning-after discomfort of excessive drinking:

  1. Drink a cup of coffee: If you are a regular coffee drinker, you will want your morning shot of caffeine; however coffee dehydrates the system and may even further irritate your stomach, making it an ineffective remedy.

  2. Have sex: It may feel good, but does nothing for the morning after headache.

  3. Have another drink: This may temporarily alleviate the suffering; but as the effects of the morning-after drink wears off,  the discomfort returns.
